With those documents. the police doubted the veracity, the finance house did not hesitate to give him the loan, more so, after the fake appointment letter he presented stated he earns N300,000 monthly.
Abuja Metro gathered that he also presented a fake medical doctor who was later discovered to be a civil servant, as guarantor.
The Ahmadu Bello University medical student dropout however exhausted his stock of luck when the bank smelt a rat and decided to contact the management of the National Hospital to verify Salisu’s claims, and found all to fail the truth test.
At that point the bank had already offered the accused the money and decided to go after him.
They reported the matter to the police that arrested and started investigating the claims.
Salisu, who said he plans to go back to school to complete his studies said he dropped out of school because he has no one to pay his fees.
He said his parents are so poor that he had to depend on one of his uncles for his upkeep while in school but that the uncle disappointed him as he did not live up to his expectation.
With no one to run to for help, he said he had to leave and find other means of survival.
Narrating the hardship he was passing through before and after he dropped out of school, Salisu said he used to take microbiology students on lessons to make some income and sustain himself, yet that was not enough incentive.
The suspect, who says he regrets his act, narrated that he used the money from the loan to set up kerosene sales business as someone had told him it is the lucrative type of venture that would sustain his cash flow and enable him pick his medical course bills.
He also told the police how he plans to invest the proceeds of the business in his course.
The young man who said he has not lost his hope of becoming a medical doctor one day as he often sees himself in the dream wearing the while medical coat, told Abuja Metro, that “I feel very bad seeing myself in this condition because this is not what I plan to do, but condition forced me into this.
“I am from a very poor home and my father is very old and my mother if she hears this will just die because I was not raised to be a thief. After my secondary education, I gained admission into the Ahmadu Bello University to study medicine and because my parents cannot afford to train me, I went to one of my uncles who promised to assist but warned that the course I am going to study is for children of wealthy parents alone. But I didn’t take his words to mean anything until I commenced the course.
“He starved me of everything I asked for, to the extent that I could not afford the cheapest medical book. I had to start taking some microbiology students on private lessons to make little money to sustain myself. Yet, they were not able to pay much because they are also students.
“And when I could no longer endure the suffering, I had to drop out in my fourth year and since then life has never been easy.
“I know people will not understand what I passed through but those who went to medical school will understand me better because it is not easy to study medicine anywhere in the world if you don’t have anybody supporting you.”
“I did not drop out of school because I could not pass my examination, no, I am a very brilliant student and I have never failed from the first day I enrolled in school. I have a very good result and my transcript from the university is a proof that I am a good student, it was frustration that forced me to drop out of school.”
“Even though I feel very bad about what I have done, I did that to make some money for me to go back to school. I told the bank that I have a land at Gwagwalada, which I used as collateral to get the loan. Now that this has happened, I plan to sell the land and pay back the loan even though I have already paid about N700,000.
“I am appealing to Nigerians to help me go back to school and complete my education that is if I ever come out of this. But I don’t know how my parents will feel if they hear this. My father is very old and my mother will just die, I pray God to please help me.”
