Ziona Chana hasa has 39 wives, 94 children, 14 daughters-in-law and 33 grandchildren. They all live with him in his hotel-like 100-room, four-story house perched among the hills of Baktwang village in the Indian state of Mizoram.

'We stay around him as he is the most important person in the house. He is the most handsome person in the village.

A.B.U Medical Dropout Nabbed over bank loan, fake documents

picture - sunnewsoline.com

The young man, Salisu Yusuf, whom police said also claimed to be a medical doctor, allegedly presented a fake employment letter identifying him as a doctor with the National Hospital, Abuja, a false letter confirming his appointment and a fake bank statement from Mainstream Bank.

With those documents. the police doubted the veracity, the finance house did not hesitate to give him the loan, more so, after the fake appointment letter he presented stated he earns N300,000 monthly.

Abuja Metro gathered that he also presented a fake medical doctor who was later discovered to be a civil servant, as guarantor.

The Ahmadu Bello University medical student dropout however exhausted his stock of luck when the bank smelt a rat and decided to contact the management of the National Hospital to verify Salisu’s claims, and found all to fail the truth test.

At that point the bank had already offered the accused the money and decided to go after him.

They reported the matter to the police that arrested and started investigating the claims.

Salisu, who said he plans to go back to school to complete his studies said he dropped out of school because he has no one to pay his fees.

He said his parents are so poor that he had to depend on one of his uncles for his upkeep while in school but that the uncle disappointed him as he did not live up to his expectation.

With no one to run to for help, he said he had to leave and find other means of survival.

Narrating the hardship he was passing through before and after he dropped out of school, Salisu said he used to take microbiology students on lessons to make some income and sustain himself, yet that was not enough incentive.

The suspect, who says he regrets his act, narrated that he used the money from the loan to set up kerosene sales business as someone had told him it is the lucrative type of venture that would sustain his cash flow and enable him pick his medical course bills.

He also told the police how he plans to invest the proceeds of the business in his course.

The young man who said he has not lost his hope of becoming a medical doctor one day as he often sees himself in the dream wearing the while medical coat, told Abuja Metro, that “I feel very bad seeing myself in this condition because this is not what I plan to do, but condition forced me into this.

“I am from a very poor home and my father is very old and my mother if she hears this will just die because I was not raised to be a thief. After my secondary education, I gained admission into the Ahmadu Bello University to study medicine and because my parents cannot afford to train me, I went to one of my uncles who promised to assist but warned that the course I am going to study is for children of wealthy parents alone. But I didn’t take his words to mean anything until I commenced the course.

“He starved me of everything I asked for, to the extent that I could not afford the cheapest medical book. I had to start taking some microbiology students on private lessons to make little money to sustain myself. Yet, they were not able to pay much because they are also students.

“And when I could no longer endure the suffering, I had to drop out in my fourth year and since then life has never been easy.

“I know people will not understand what I passed through but those who went to medical school will understand me better because it is not easy to study medicine anywhere in the world if you don’t have anybody supporting you.”

“I did not drop out of school because I could not pass my examination, no, I am a very brilliant student and I have never failed from the first day I enrolled in school. I have a very good result and my transcript from the university is a proof that I am a good student, it was frustration that forced me to drop out of school.”

“Even though I feel very bad about what I have done, I did that to make some money for me to go back to school. I told the bank that I have a land at Gwagwalada, which I used as collateral to get the loan. Now that this has happened, I plan to sell the land and pay back the loan even though I have already paid about N700,000.

“I am appealing to Nigerians to help me go back to school and complete my education that is if I ever come out of this. But I don’t know how my parents will feel if they hear this. My father is very old and my mother will just die, I pray God to please help me.”

The Benue State government said it has commenced the evacuation of students from Mubi in Adamawa State, following the recent attack on the town by insurgents.

The Chief of Staff to the governor, Prof. Saint Gbilekaa, disclosed this when he received the first batch of the students from Adamawa in Makurdi on Friday night.

The first batch included 17 students of Adamawa State University and Federal Polytechnic Mubi. Gbilekaa said out of over 400 students in Adamawa, only 17 could be evacuated in the first batch.

He said the others were scattered in the bushes while some were taking refuge in Cameroon. He said the government would intensify efforts to ensure that all the students are brought back safely.

He appealed to the students who are yet to be evacuated to assist the government by coming together in groups and to make contact with their friends and relatives or notify the government for action.

"The plight of our children schooling in the Boko Haram affected states is immense, especially those in Mubi, Adamawa. We were informed of the situation of our children who were able to run away from Mubi and were stranded in the bush and the governor quickly ordered their evacuation.

They are many and some are scattered in the bush, some are taking refuge in Cameroon while the 17 of them were able to come together to notify us for adequate action. We appeal to those still in the bushes to try their possible best to establish contact with either their relatives or any government official to enable us come to their aid", he said.

Gbilekaa added that if the situation persists, the government may ask for transfer of the students to other institutions to ensure their safety.

Dominic Ekele, Business Administration student of Adamawa State University, told newsmen that Boko Haram militants took over the university and Mubi town.

Ekele said security personnel and civilians ran for their lives.

"We spent three days in the bush without food, climbing mountains and running away from the insurgents. We walked over 100 kilometres before we were able to get people that helped us.

As I am talking with you now, some students are in the bush, while others are taking refuge in Cameroon," he said.

He commended the state government for coming to their aid within a short notice and pleaded for the rescue of others still in the bushes and in Cameroon.

Russia dismantles Apple statue after CEO comes out as gay

I said it when Apple CEO Tim Cook came out as gay that there might be consequences, unfortunately it has started. A human-sized iPhone statue featuring a screen that displays a photo and video tribute to Apple Inc founder, Steve Jobs, which was erected in St Petersburg, Russia in 2013, was dismantled by the people who put it up, a day after Apple CEO, Tim Cook, came out as gay.

The Russian group of companies that erected the monument released a statement today saying it was taken down on Friday Oct. 31st, because they needed to abide by 'a law combating gay propaganda". Whatever that means. I guess more to come...
