KADUNA 2015: I want to fill the vacuum Yakowa left – El-Rufai

A former FCT Minister and a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has formally announced his intent to run for the Kaduna state governorship election in 2015.

El-Rufai was at the palace of Kpop Gwong, Col. Paul Zakka-Wyoms(retd.), the Paramount Ruler of the Gwong to formally intimate the monarch on his governorship ambition, according to report from The Punch

He told the Kpop Gwong that if he becomes the governor in 2015, he would govern the state with justice, equity and fairness that would take the state to the another level of development.

El-rufai, while paying glowing tribute to the late Yakowa, described the late governor as a responsible and sincere leader whose death left a big vacuum in the polity of the state.

“I come here to formally inform you of our decision to seek the highest office in our dear state. It is a demonstration of deep commitment to the peace, development and unity of Kaduna State. I am set and ready to move to action, justice is paramount to development and that is my direction. I am seeking your blessings and moral backing,” said the Accidental Public Servant.

He added: “I am not new to our state; I did my primary school, secondary school and university in our state. And also practiced here in our state before moving to Abuja where we both served with Yakowa in General Abdulsalam Abubakar’s government, and so I know our problems and together we will run a responsible and participatory government together,” said El-Rufai.

EME leaked my album but it’s all good – Wizkid

You can call it a blessing in disguise as Wizkid who is still basking in the euphoria of being number 1 on the Itunes World chart has revealed his sophomore album was leaked.

The singer who kept postponing his last and final album with his former label, Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) finally finished the 19 tracker which was due to drop on the 23rd of september.

But that didn’t happen as the album dropped on iTunes on the 19th. Many industry pundits and fans alike thought it was perhaps a marketing stunt but the young executive of Starboy records has since revealed the album ‘Ayo (Joy)’ was leaked without his consent.

Wizkid who had earlier tweeted a countdown to the release of the said album returned to Nigeria from the UK to record a song with 2face as part of his Hennessy Artistry headlining activities for the year only to see the unexpected release of the full 19 track album on iTunes.

He said, ‘They leaked my shit!! Its all Good still.’

Bomb Scare At Bayero University Kano

Students and lecturers ran out of their lecture halls over the weekend at Bayero University Kano in fear as a result of a sound which they heard and thought it was an explosion. There was a great panic in the New-site Campus which they later discovered what they heard was thunder sound and not a bomb.

Some students of the University called on the Minister of Education Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau to please close down schools for some time as they find it difficult to concentrate on their studies.

They said every little sound frightens them and their lecturers. “We are really scared , we can’t continue like this, we lost our friends at Federal College of Education Kano, ordinary Lizard made people to run at Aminu Kano School of Legal Studies Kano, now we are running as result of thunder sound” said a female student from the university.

The Government and the school authorities should endeavor to provide Security Personnel in our tertiary institutions else, parents will have no option than to stop their children from going to school.

Linda Ikeji, Uche Pedro And Other Successful Bloggers Share Their Worst Mistakes

What do you get when you ask successful Nigerian bloggers Linda Ikeji, Uche Pedro, Ikenna Azuike, Noble Igwe and Tosin “SuperGal” Olori the same question? This question…
“What was the worst mistake you made and what did you or are you still learning from it?”

After days of phoning, sending emails and practically stalking all 5 of them, I was finally able to find out. What I got was a series of thought-provoking, intelligent and diverse responses with lessons that can help you stay true to yourself and your vision.

Noble Igwe. 360nobs.com: “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”

“At the beginning, I knew I was positioning 360Nobs.com as a Hub for lifestyle, news and entertainment in Africa”

Says Noble Igwe, the founder of the highly influential blog … 360nobs. Noble used a simple personal diary series “Memoirs of a SLU….shhkid” to spark the growth of the blog.

But (according to him) his worst mistake was stopping the popular series to focus on a new relationship. A mistake he admits still haunts him…

“Looking back, I shouldn’t have stopped writing something that was so huge in terms of traffic generation. I cannot say that I’ve fully recovered from it but I hope to have enough time to write something of that nature soon. If it’s not broken, don’t change it.”

Fortunately, he hasn’t been hampered by that setback and is actively managing the growth of 360nobs along with several other blogs including the fast-rising stylevitae.com

Linda Ikeji. Lindaikeji.blogspot.com: “find the right balance”

After several attempts … emails, text messages and phone calls, I was finally able to reach Linda Ikeji and when I did she was multi-tasking. Always moving, always working and always making an impact on Nigerian news. That is the dynamic life of Nigeria’s most successful blogger and founder of lindaikeji.blogspot.com.

Her blog is so influential that it routinely shapes the Nigerian discourse daily, largely due to the number of breaking news stories that originate from the site.

So when asked her worst mistake it was not a surprise that Linda mentioned this breaking news article “Richard Mofe Damijo builds Multi Million Naira House” which sparked a personal and heated response from Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) debunking the cost of the newly built house. Although the figures were never fully ascertained by RMD, it became a defining experience for Linda. In her words…

“Inaccurate stories affect your brand and affects your credibility in the long-term. And for you to be taken serious you have to find a balance and accept it.”

And that balance for her was to ensure that 100% of her posts are accurate but yet be able to accept that inevitably 1 out of 10 might not be. Such is the nature of the fast paced news industry where even large media houses like CNN and BBC struggle with finding the right balance. But Linda seems to have found it … as she continues to deliver breaking news without sacrificing her blogs credibility.

Ikenna Azuike. What’s Up Africa: “take the leap”

While most struggled to think of worst mistakes. Ikenna Azuike creator of the popular BBC (in works) video blog What’s Up Africa was one of the few to start with the words “I have made so many mistakes.”

So many that we had to limit it to just one. And this mistake is one that a lot of people stuck behind a desk or trapped in an office can relate to. It is the fear of staying at a high paying job you hate versus going to a low paying job you know you would love.

“[My mistake was] being afraid of starting from the bottom again. I began as an intern at RNW.org and took an 80% pay cut. Painful. And of course I had some savings when I left … so it was a calculated leap of faith. But I trusted in my abilities, my network of friends who supported me and knew that with a bit of creativity and hard work things would be okay.”

Thankfully he did take the leap and with over 179,000 subscribers on the What’s Up Africa Facebook page, he is fast becoming a global force to reckon with!

Tosin “SuperGal” Olori. OloriSuperGal.com: “ignore the negativity”

When I caught up with Tosin aka Olori Supergal founder of olorisupergal.com she was at Mo Abudu’s 50th birthday celebration but above the blaring music, she was still able to share her worst mistake…

“My mistake was listening to numerous family and friends who told me to stop blogging and get a REAL job. But the worst mistake was accepting their words and actually considering quitting.”

It is 2014 and Tosin is arguably one of Nigeria’s top bloggers and her break through moment … the moment when she knew she had made the right decision was when she was hosted by Airtel’s management in 2012 … the same year she considered quitting!

From almost quitting to now sitting down with top managers, celebrities and national dignitaries, Tosin knows she made the right decision. Her response illustrates the importance of sticking to what you believe in and surrounding yourself with positive people.

Uche Pedro. BellaNaija.com: “find your niche”

“I really can’t think of anything that will qualify as a worst mistake [and] maybe I am still making this mistake.”

Coming from a TEDAfrica Fellow, a Future Award Nominee, a Young Person of the Year finalist at the Future Awards, award recipient of the British Airways Opportunity Grant and founder of the ever popular and still growing bellanaija.com … it is hard to see any mistake Uche Pedro is still making … but as she ponders the question more she offers up this piece of advise:

“Keep it simple. Don’t try to do everything. Pick your lane and be the best at it. While I love the variety of BellaNaija, my next venture will definitely be niche.”

And that’s the message … keep seeking ways to improve your business even though it is already successful.

Nobody knows what Uche Pedro’s next venture would be, but chances are that it will be sharp, niche and likely successful!

Jonathan Orders Removal Of #BringBackJonathan2015 Signs

National Identity Card

President Goodluck Jonathan has directed that the #BringBackJonathan2015 signs and banners around Abuja which “he and many Nigerians find offensive and repugnant” be brought down immediately, a government official has said.
In a State House release by the President’s adviser, Reuben Abati, the President said he agreed with the view that the signs “are a highly insensitive parody of the #BringBackOurGirls hash tag”.

He noted that the signs had been promoted without his knowledge or approval.

The statement further read that: “While President Jonathan appreciates the enthusiastic show of support for his administration by a broad range of stakeholders, he condemns the #Bring Back Jonathan 2015 signs which appear to make light of the very serious national and global concern for the abducted Chibok girls”.

“The President assures all Nigerians and the international community that his administration remains fully engaged with efforts to rescue the abducted girls and that he will not knowingly promote any actions that will fly in the face of the seriousness of their plight and the anguish of their families.”

A.B.U lecturer caught entering students hostel

A lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria was apprehended Sunday night at a private female hostel in Samaru, Zaria.

Daily Trust gathered yesterday that the lecturer disguised by wearing Hijab (veil) and attempted to sneak into the hostel before he was intercepted.

A witness, Khalifa Sha'aibu, alleged that, that was not the first time the lecturer was entering the hostel to visit his girl friend.

Sha'aibu added: "The most annoying thing is the fact that the man used Hijab. As a Muslim, I feel sad that somebody would use something that women of faith are known with to perpetrate crime. I wonder why the man would not get a hotel room to perpetrate his immoral act. It was a vigilante member that noticed the structure of the man and exposed him. After he was caught, we discovered that he has been entering the hostel with the consent of the girl. The owner of the private hostel had barred men from entering the rooms."

It was further gathered that the lecturer was handed over to a team of army personnel that are manning a check point close to the university.

Daily Trust also gathered that the officers ransacked the lecturer's house.

When contacted, Director of Public Affairs in the university, Dr. Ismail Shehu, said he heard something like that but that no official report has been made.

He added that when an official report is received, the university will take action.

"As you know, ABU does not tolerate indiscipline. Investigation would be carried out and both the lecturer and student would be punished accordingly. There is no doubt about that," he said.
