Military operations in Borno State went sour today when angry soldiers staged a mutiny and shot at the vehicle of the General Officer Commander (GOC) of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Amadu Mohammed who escaped death by the whiskers.

The incident happened at the Maimalari Barracks along Baga Road in Maiduguri.

Witnesses said a bullet allegedly fired by one of the protesting soldiers at the jeep of the GOC pierced the passenger side of the vehicle but is not yet clear if it hit the army General.

Reliable sources within the military said he was taken to a hospital in the barracks but was later discharged.

People living close to the barracks said they heard sound of sustained gunshots in the barracks. “In fact, I thought there was an attack in the barracks by the insurgents. It was later that I learnt the problem was within the barracks,” a fuel hawker at the Shagari Low Cost said.

The attack on the GOC followed the killing of 12 soldiers who were reportedly ambushed by suspected members of the Boko Haram while on their way to Maiduguri from Kala-Balge local government area along the shores of the Lake Chad in Borno State.
