31 Students Arrested Over Cultism In Ogun

About 31 suspected cultists from various tertiary institutions in Ogun State were arrested during an initiation ceremony at a hotel in Abeokuta, the state capital.

It was gathered that most of the students came from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNNAB), Federal College of Education Osiele, and the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY).

A female suspect, Itunun Abiola, who claimed to be a student of the polytechnic, however, told journalists that she was on her way to meet a cousin when she was arrested.

Another suspect, Oluwatobi Asekan, who identified himself as a 500-level student of Agric-Economics in FUNNAB, confessed that he secured the hotel for the other suspects but added that he was not aware of the purpose for which it was booked.

The police displayed a banner with the inscription: “National Association of Airlords, FUNNAB chapter and OAK nest, Determination Regime,” while T shirts with Eiye confraternity inscriptions and other paraphernalia were also recovered.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, said the suspects were arrested following an intelligence report. He added that investigation into the matter is on-going.
